Audra Mcdonald stands out as a truly unique performer in her versatility and range of her talents as an actor and singer. Audra McDonald, who won seven Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential people. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -- America's highest honour for excellence in this area. A dazzling soprano, and an unrivalled talent for telling dramatic truths She is equally at ease in Broadway as well as on the stage as she is in films and TV roles. As well as her stage work, she has a thriving career as a recording artist regularly appearing at the most prestigious venues in the world. McDonald grew in Fresno California, where she was raised by a large family with musicians. At the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as a classical singer. She won her first Tony Award in 1994 for the top performance of an Actress in a show for Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years she won two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category, for her roles of The Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the Musical Ragtime (1998) which gave her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004 she was in the running for her fourth Tony Award. Her role was that of A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her five year old daughter received her first Tony in the category of Leading Actress when she was the main character for the musical The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. She made Broadway the history books in 2014 as she was the most decorated Tony Award nominee. Her portrayal as Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill as well as the role which was also instrumental in launching the career of her Olivier Award nominated debut on London's West End in 2017, was her six award. Along with setting the record for most performances that an actor has won in a competition she also became the first individual to win honors in all four acting categories. Her theater credits includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2005) 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nacht (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical sensation that debuted in 1921 and all That Followed (2017) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) as well as Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald was first introduced to television viewers as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say The Delany Sisters first 100 years. She appeared on the show in 1999. appeared with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Additionally, she was an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. The actress starred with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in The Bite a six-episode pandemic-themed comedy co-produced through Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios in 2021. Having first appeared in the role of U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in the year 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald took on her character (now known as Liz Reddick) as a regular in the season premiere of The Good Fight on Paramount+ and received three Critics Choice Award nominations for her performance. In the present, she's an actor in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which premieres on HBO.
