Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. For a child that had Irish heritage, who was surrounded her parents were gifted as well as a family full filled with talented individuals, these qualities were naturally a part of her. Maureen came to this loving haven, August 17, 1920. She was raised by the family of her parents. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin as well as owned a part of the famous Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons' was the second FitzSimons kid. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen was a runner who excelled as a young kid. She enjoyed playing in athletic, rough sports. Her ability to perform perfectly complemented her love of athletics. The fact that she was awarded nearly every Feis awards for her native country's drama and theatre performances is a testimony to the fact that she was a natural performer. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical and opera.
